I Have A Hybrid Car. What If I Forget To Turn It Off? Will My Battery Die?

A lot of these new, green energy cars are quiet. Very quiet. Not only are they very quiet when they are ambling down the road, they are also exceptionally quiet when you put them in park – mainly because the gas engine shuts itself off when it is not needed.

It is certainly imaginable that you get home from a long day’s work, or an exhausting night out on the town, you stumble inside and completely forget to hit that push button turn off thingy on that new hybrid car of yours. (I am still getting used to the fact that a lot of the cars were work on have no “keys!). If this is one of those minor sins you have committed, fear not! Technology tries to save itself from us absentminded humans, and smart cars are no exception.

After about an hour, if the car has not moved and is in park. a hybrid or electric car will shut itself off. It may run the gas engine from time to time to charge the battery, but the emissions are so low, that you would nor risk a dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide in the garage.

All in all, the automakers have us imperfect humans in mind when they design automobiles for us to drive around in.
