Let’s say you are out shopping for a used car and you find one, either from a dealership or an individual. You know that VIN numbers are good to have for a prospective vehicle purchase, but what information can you actually get from one? The answer is – a lot!
A vehicles VIN number is most useful in looking up that vehicle’s build. You can use a VIN number on many Internet sites. Once entered, a VIN number will tell you the vehicle’s specifications. These can include engine size, bed size, transmission, interior specifications and even factory options. You can also get a history of the car’s title through the VIN number, which will tell you if an insurance company owned the car, which likely means it was involved in an accident.
However, be aware that if you do research with a VIN number online, you will probably be charged for any information, and it may not even be complete.
